Heretics may now activate Battler - (1.74 patch notes)

At level 5 it procs an accuracy boost that lasts for one minute and increases your chances of hitting with melee by 50%. The sword procs a lot, so basically this is like a self buff that's usually up.

At level 10 it gets the secondary magical ability, with an ABS debuff of 19. (Turn studded into cloth, plate essentially into studded, etc.)   Nov 22

Yeah, I should clarify some of that info. I've been playing around with it in a duel with my bot.
The proc that improves your chances of hitting melee also increases the damage you do. The message is 'You swing your weapon with great skill and force.' My unbuffed level 50 (RR5) pally was hitting my unbuffed level 50 (RR3) shaman for 61-81 pts unstyled (29+15 slash spec), ignoring all attacks that had crits. When the proc went off the unstyled damage went up to the 84-110 range unstyled for the duration of the effect not counting crits. (I didn't do long logs or anything, just hit 20 times or so to get an idea of the range.)

The secondary magical effect is on a 15 minute timer regardless of the listed recast time. When the effect is used, your target has their ABS debuffed by 19, and your ABS is buffed by 19. The shammy was hitting me for 23-30 pts initially, but once the ABS buff was used the damage dropped to 17-22 until the effect wore off. Similarly, the shaman was taking signicantly more damage while his absorb was debuffed (I was hitting him in the 90-100 range while he was debuffed and then the proc went off and then I was doing 100-135ish).

Note that the debuff can be resisted like any other debuff, and the first time I tried it on my shammy he did resist it.    Nov 22

Drops off Battler at 10k,20k in Ashen Isles
The island is surrounded by lava, but there is a bridge at the south end that is NOT on Kallisti's map of Ashen Isles.    Nov 7

Route to get to Battler  - map by Tacopants
Upon getting to chimera island and the fourth bridge you will see some elite taur defenders. These are really bad ass mobs and 3 of them are easily more difficult then battler himself. Jump off the left side of the bridge before you get to the end and you can avoid the taur all together.
One more thing.. this map shows no bridge to get to battler's island, but trust me it's there.
Easily killable with 1g, and yes he is completely immune to magic damage of any type afaik.  Jan 17

Me and my brother Focus Pulled this encounter with: me, (50 mana chanter) him, (50 mana ment) and a 48 druid buffbot.  Encounter was simple, because he picks aggro then stays on target, we just engaged, then ran if he wasn't on pet.  2nd try he stuck on pet and was simple from there, just put up focus, kept pet HoT'd and healed with druidbot when needed.  When chanter ran out of power used power pots and rested till he regained pow, then put up focus again, etc.  Overall fight took about 45 mins but got the drop and was well worth it.  Woulda been hella lot easier and faster if we had FoP.   May 7 2004

Tips:

It is rumoured that this is an 8 hour respawn.  Feb 29 2004

Did Battler with 7 people tonight, and accidently found a new strategy that works pretty damn well.

At the beginning of the fight with Battler, he picks a target and sticks with him the ENTIRE fight, so what we first did was just engage him and begin the whole kite and have our tanks spamming snare styles on him (works alright, can be a pain to get snares to stick though). However, his aggro was on one of our bards the whole time so he was the designated kiter -- until he LD'd on auto-run when Battler was at like 40%. Thats when we found out that Battler will disengage the group and walk back to spawn point while regening hp at an ungodly rate (was back at 80% in like 10 seconds, 100% soon thereafter) if you run out of his "fighting zone", which is pretty much the flat ground where he spawns -- if you make it to any of the hills leading down he'll disengage and walk back.

So what we did after knowing this was engage him again, but he aggro'd our other bard so we ran off and let him disengage again. We rested then went back out and this time he aggro'd our blademaster, so we ran back again and let Battler disengage. The next time we attacked he engaged our S/S hero, with pbt and 3 tanks (4th meleer was our warden) Battler was a piece of cake, a bit long, but was able to keep our hero safely healed without the need of power pots or any instas (used MCL twice with two other bards healing as well). Fight lasted about 12 minutes.

So, if you have a S/S tank or any other tank you would prefer to have aggro on during the fight, just keep on engaging and disengaging him until you have him on your preferred target. It was MUCH EASIER doing Battler when he wasn't on our bard the whole fight.

Fight lasted about 12 minutes.   Mar 12 2004
