Mariasha's Sharkskin Gloves

The Mariasha's Sharkskin Gloves encounter will now properly grant encounter credit to all group members.  (1.69 patch, Apr 14 2004)
If you do this quest in a group, be sure that the one who picks up the box, hasn't done the quest before. If someone who already has credit for this quest picks up the box and bring ity to shore, NOBODY in group will get credit.  Oct 23 2004  - Pangaan

The level 10 effect was changed in a 1.69 read file (undocumented)  It now summons 50 Arrows of each damage type, they are better then FF Broads because they have a +damage and +to hit.  Apr 21 2004

The arrows summoned by these gloves are not normal arrows.  The gloves produce arrows with a +hit bonus.  Mar 22 2004

Mariasha's Sharkskin Gloves - The archery haste and archery range bonuses on the gloves were each reduced by 2%. The slash, crush, thrust, heat, cold, and energy resistance bonuses have been increased by 1% for each.

You have to get the strongbox on the bottom of the ocean, then swim out of the shark area, probably on to the island. If you wait a while the box will unlock and you get the gloves. Dec 8 2003

Me and a friend (ArchiComics) had found the best strategy for this encounter possible. You simply have a Cave Shaman with AE Root... (Or any classes with AE root) and posistion yourself near the person snatching the chest. While he starts to run up the hill on Sprint I Spam AE rooted just about all the sharks down except 1 or 2 which is nothing compared to the 20+ sharks rooted at the bottom. He got up to the top with 85% health including while he was rez sick and didn't have his Speed buff.  Jun 18 2004

The spell, "Weight of Atlantis", now has a small damage component. This will cause players picking up the Heavy Strongbox to take damage and be brought into combat mode, losing benefits such as stealth and speedsong.

Players will no longer be able to use the Gateway spells during the Mariasha's Sharkskin Gloves or the Staff of the God encounters if they are holding the locked artifact. Once the encounter has been completed, players holding the artifacts will be able to use the Gateway spells.
The Mariasha's Sharkskin Gloves encounter will now give group credit instead of just crediting the player carrying the Heavy Strongbox.  (Jul 21 2004 patch 1.70m)

Tips:

I duo'd the artifact as a level 42 ranger with a 50 druid healer. I just had my healer friend sit half way between me and the surface. As soon as I took chest I sprinted, used ranger speed, and swam to the surface. One note is that you don't have to make it to land, nor survive to get the artifact. You only have to hit the surface of the water and the quest is completed with the artifact in your inventory. I died just after surfacing, released, and had the gloves.  Jun 25 2004

I completed this with my scout and bot after the 1.68 patch.  Just get an endurance potion, grab the box, and sprint up and toward the western island.  Position your bot about halfway to your destination and have him heal you a little on your way out.  Cleric spec AF and heal reactive no doubt helped, but I don’t see any reason why a hunter or ranger won’t be able to do the same without too much difficulty.  Have fun killing those sharks!  Mar 23 2004

I litterally completed this encounter in 30 seconds (if that).   When you pick up the box a snare type spell is cast on you and you can barely move, that's when every shark in the sea attacks and kills you.   A necro cannot pick up the box so the strategy I used was, I had a necro click the box to pick it up and when this was done, he tripped the snare on himself.  I was then able to pick up the box and sprint with no spell cast on me.   I did have a minstrel with SoS speed af on me and we swam to shore without a scratch.   Very simple.  Mar 13 2004

I recently did this quest and found it to be easy for a Ranger regardless of the 1.68 patch and it's Weight of Atlantis snare.  If you are a Ranger that took the time to have enough spec in Pathfinding to get a decent speed buff, this will be easy even now.  Just use the above loc and dive straight down stealthed.  Face the island and double click the box to pick it up. The snare should immediately hit you and as soon as it does, hit auto run and hit sprint and your speed buff.  (Remember to surface)  I made it to the island without a scratch and the sharks sucking my bubbles.  When I arrived at the island, the box changed into the gloves in my inventory.   Feb 23
