Leveling the Artifact:

Strategy:

Loc - Oceanus Hesperos 9700, 28600
Mob - Named Harpy Perida. Will transform several times with renewed hitpoints.

I did this encounter in the game day time. the mob was up and i soloed it, im a 42 suppression bone dancer. all i did was buff my pets, commander healer and buffer and sick em on it. perida was originally a harpy, then morphed into a crocodile, then finally an iaculous. she didn't seem to get stronger or anything form morphing, only a full hp recovery.   Jul 24 2004

The artifact does NOT always drop, however, you do get encounter credit each time.  Jul 1 2004

I camped Orion's Belt for 13 hours and there was no spawn. I appealed but of course I got no responce. I tried not killing the harpys and killing the harpys that didnt work. The spawn time is considerably longer then 6-8 hours.
I talked to a guild mate and he said he waited almost 16 hours for it to spawn.  Sep 25 2004

Tips:

Peridas seems to be a dawn-spawn to me.  Killed 3 times, spawned at 4h30m, 9h20m, and 10h40m.  And you DO get credit for the encounter even if he doesn't drop the belt.   Sep 19 2004

As far as the belt, I was using <at the time> a 44 necro <DS spec> to do the encounter, was solo'd very easily, however be aware there is about a 3 second invert between shapechanges where Peridas casts a PBAE that would have stung a bit <200-250dam as i remember, same cast as a Hib Chanter PBAE now that i think about it, so resists should be the same> if i wasnt chain Lifetapping at that time.   Jul 24 2004
- Narcelepsy

Perida was a red-con to a level 35, and seemed to hit hard for his level.
When we got him down to about 10% life, Perida changed briefly into a ghostly Briton, then into a new form, and went back to full health. He transformed like this twice.  Jul 1 2004
- Kallah Dreamsong

She spawns as a harpy at night time and you have to kill her as a harpy, she fulls heals, morphs into a shade, then morphs into a crocidile, kill her, full heals, morphs into a shade, morphs into a iaculus, then kill her, she full heals and morphs into a shade. After you kill the iaculus, you should be done. The shade will blow up about 10 seconds after she morphs into it after the iaculus. The artifacr does not drop 100% of the time. Respawn is unkown.  Jun 25 2004

Scroll pieces:   Great Hunt

Piece 1 of 3
Bolos statues, palios statues, odisse harpies

Piece 2 of 3
Bolos statues, odisse harpies, amentia harpies

Piece 3 of 3
Bolos statues, palios statues, odisse harpies, amentia harpies

Very easy to get except for 3/3.   Scrolls best farmed by level 47 and under due to the fact that mobs all con green. Some blue cons (green to 50) spawn but are few and far between.  Jun 30 2004

The completed scrolls read:
The Great Hunt, complete story reads, "Hear me, o Gods!  Take pity on this fool whose greed and vanity have condemned him to live out his days in torment!  Hear me now as I remember great Orion, whose life was taken at the hands of this lowly betrayer… I, the wretched man whose lust for material gain has come at too great a price.  Hear now your humble, most unworthy servant Peridas, as I record the tragic tale in these, my last hours as a mortal man.  For my doom is written as surely as the sun rises come the break of the new day."

The Great Hunt, complete story reads, "It was to be a great hunt.  Mighty Orion, unmatched in skill, and I, his rival, made our way to Stygia.  Orion had boasted that he could surely slay any creature in all the realms of our land.   Truly, we believed him, and why should we not?  His skills were unmatched, and his blessed armor was forged by the Gods themselves.  It was his magical belt and its protective powers I envied most, and so, when Orion had made his proud claim, I challenged him to prove his worth by embarking on a great hunt without the aid of his belt.  Proud Orion, fearful of endangering his reputation, had no choice but to accept the challenge.  "

The Great Hunt, complete story reads, "That night, while Orion slept under the stars of Stygia , my desire to possess the belt overcame my reason.  I placed a deadly scorpion in his boot, and the next morning, he was fatally stung while dressing for our great hunt.  The Gods, who had ever favored Orion, lay a terrible curse upon me, and with the rise of the new sun in the morning, I shall be damned to live out my days forever transforming from one beast of prey to another.  Forever it is I, Peridas, who shall be hunted!  O, the terrible, tragic irony!  What a fool I am!  What a greedy, selfish fool who has brought upon himself a terrible curse, all for want of Orion's Belt.  Oh Gods!  Take pity upon me now as I submit to your wisdom and judgement!"       Jun 9 2004
