Leveling the Artifact:

Strategy:

Location:
You need to travel to Haven of Aerus.  Bind in Aerus and swim North West to Desdemone's Island (first Island on your left (West)).   Approach the Island from the North (at least as far up at 28k/40k); this helps to avoid the Invisable Harpies.  Move directly to South to the bunch of trees, the second bunch from the Northern tip of the Island.  Go to /loc 25469,42889 and have a tank type /dig.   Mar 9 2004

Done it with 2, ranger and bard (pf +hf) ,ranger went to loc /loc 25469,42889 ranger dug and got aggro by 1 invisible harpy ,bard stayed and healed till /dig time was up (2 mins) ,than the named harpy spwned...we ran to water and dived.

Droped pf at the bottom of river and ranger meleed up top was easy there on, got credit in water and all, if you want can heal some so you get aggro than pop your head up this will give you agg and ranger can bow it, even if you move back down you`ll still keep aggro and ranger can shoot freely.  May 17 2004

Tips:

IMPORTANT: only a tank should dig.   You may get one Invisable Harpy while digging before the Harpy of the Dance appears.   The Harpy of the Dance will be permanently aggressive to the tank that dug her up, concentrate heals on this person.   We did the encounter with a Hunter, Shadowblade, Healer, two Spirit Masters and a couple of un-grouped bots.   Mar 9 2004

For the ring of dances encounter, you need to go to 25.8, 44.3 on Desdemone's island and /dig until the harpy of the dance spawns. Don't give up after one try, you may have to /dig a few times to get the harpy to spawn. Kill it and you get the ring and encounter credit.  Dec 23

I was capable of doing this encounter with myself (zerker) and my shaman bot.  You don't even need to dig for the coins if you head in from the N side of the island.  The only thing you have to worry about is when you are nearing the trees where the harpy spawns.  If you run in from the N, there will be an invisible harpy to your left at the leftmost tree.  Other than that, get in the bunches of trees and /dig.  I found that the person who does the /dig will have the most aggro on it.  First attempt I did it, my shaman bot dug it up and it was all over because I couldn't pull it off of him.  Second time got it with ease as aggro was on me.  Anyways, this is a very easy encounter to do.  Feb 10

I did this last night with a druid bot, shade, warden and bard no problems.
As the shade, i could not get the encouter to spawn (this may be because i was in a group that got the encounter before so I had 'credit' for it.) Both the warden and druid got it to spawn on their first /dig.  Dec 17

Scroll pieces:  Public Notice scrolls

Piece 1 of 3
Melos kinetic mages, Melos glacial mages
Piece 2 of 3
Melos exemplars, Melos wave hammers
Piece 3 of 3
Melos golem summoners, Melos harpers
What the scrolls read once you combine them:
##The Journal of Public Notices reads, "All champions and contenders of the plane welcome in search for most notorious and dangerous thief. All who would join in the search will be outfitted and equipped courtesy of the kingdoms of Atlantis. Thief is believed to have magical aid. The man or woman has been sought after for several years. Reward for retrieval of thief and magical aid will be a king's ransom. "

##The Journal of Public Notices reads, "Guards of the Ten Kingdoms of Atlantis have followed and tracked the infamous Dancing Thief throughout each of the kingdoms. The thief has infiltrated and robbed each of the kingdoms of Atlantis, making off with great treasures and artifacts. The Dancing Thief has been condemned as a traitor of Atlantis and is to be brought before the court of the Ten Kingdoms. The Guards have been unable to catch the Dancing Thief, and believe the Hall of Heroes to be the next target. If the Dancing Thief should be killed in an attempted capture, the Guard requests the body be searched for a magical aid, and for both to be brought to the court of the Ten Kingdoms. "

##The Journal of Public Notices reads, "More is now known about the Dancing Thief, though whether the traitor is man or woman, none can say for sure. The Dancing Thief is known to wear a midnight blue hooded cloak and wield a dagger with a white metallic blade. The Dancing Thief's face is covered in the cowl of a black tunic, and climbs with the aid of magical boots, also black. Any contender or champion of Atlantis who sees someone matching this image should challenge this traitor. If at all possible, capture the traitor and remove the primary magical means of the traitor. It is believed this item is a ring."

##The Journal of Public Notices reads, "The Dancing Thief carries a magical item, a ring. The ring has been identified as an ancient, forbidden artifact known as the Ring of Dances. This ring makes the Dancing Thief extremely dangerous. The Dancing Thief will be swifter, quicker, and harder to kill or capture. It is believed the Dancing Thief is in the Planes, seeking refuge on an island inhabited by harpies. "
